Reflections from the 1st Marking Period

I said it before and I'll say it again, art is something I'm not particularly an expert in.  I was really hesitant in the beginning to try and keep an open mind about what I just had gotten myself into.  I got frustrated and sometimes even angry because I wasn't able to draw as well as some of the other kids in my class.  Ms. Kiick kept telling me to try and enjoy the process.

I really enjoyed the collage project because it was fun to make a mess and cut up magazines without getting in trouble!  I think as the year goes on, I'm finding myself willing to be more open and try harder to understand what I can do. I know that no matter what, I'll find my inner artist and do well in class this year.  If nothing else, I know that my mom will hang my stuff on the refrigerator and brag to the relatives about what a great artist I've become!

Why I would vote for........

Next in art class, we have moved on to collage art.  I had to create a collage that represented the candidate I thought I would vote for if I was able to do so.  I choose President Barack Obama.  After watching one of the debates I feel that Obama should remain our Commander in Chief for the next 4 years.  What really made me feel this way was his views on education.

Obama wants to see every child, from every corner of the United States have a quality, affordable, education.  I am lucky to live in a place where I can go to a safe school, have access to books and computers, and have teachers who are high qualified to work in our district.  Some kids aren't as lucky.

This is my collage.  The election is November 6, 2012.  I hope to see President Obama stay in office and continue to improve our education system for everyone!

"If the Shoe Fits, Wear It!"

We all had to bring in a pair of shoes to art class.  I was not completely sure what we would be doing at first.  Ms. Kiick had us place our shoes on the tables and once they were set up, we couldn't move them.  I choose a pair of Aeropostale black sneakers.  I'm not the best at drawing but I was determined to give it my best shot!

It was hard to see how shoes could be art.  As we drew each day in class, I saw how the shoes became an image not just an object.  It was easier to see the shoes as a potential drawing than in the beginning.

Like I said, I'm not the best at drawing but my shoes are now art!
